The driver must be able to see clearly and steer the race car safely. Most race cars use welded-in seat bars that don't allow for changes in seat height. If the seat needs to be raised by up to 4-1/2", our Seat Spacer Assembly provides an effective solution. For seat height increases between 1-1/4" and 2", use the 18-720 Lower Straight Seat Spacer. For increases between 1-3/4" and 4-1/2", use the 18-724 Triangulated Seat Spacer.
This system uses matched convex and concave spacers on each side of the seat. These spacers allow the seat to be mounted at an angle relative to the welded-in boss without introducing shear loads into the bolt, while still maintaining the necessary tension forces.
18-720 Lower Straight Seat Spacer adds 5/8" of seat height. 18-724 Triangulated Seat Spacer adds 1‑1/8" of seat height. Use in combination with 18‑705 Bolt Shield, 18‑706 (2) Convex Spacers, and 18‑707 Concave Spacer. Optional flat spacers 18‑710 (1/4"), 18‑712 (1/2"), and 18‑714 (1") can be added to further increase height. The basic assembly using the Lower Straight Seat Spacer with no additional flat spacers will add 1-1/4" of seat height. The basic assembly using the Triangulated Seat Spacer with no additional flat spacers will add 1-3/4" of seat height.
Seat spacers are machined from 6061‑T6 aluminum and anodized black. They are designed to fit a 1" diameter seat bar and use 7/16" bolts.
On the Hyper Chassis, the seat bar has (2) 3/8"-24 threaded bosses. These must be drilled out to 7/16", so that a long 7/16" through bolt can be used. The original 3/8" bolts are not strong enough due to the additional leverage created by the seat spacers.
Warning: As a general rule, drivers that weight over 100 pounds should not exceed 3-1/2" in spacer height, drivers over 140 pounds should not exceed 2" in seat spacer height, and drivers over 200 pounds should not exceed 1" in seat spacer height.
