Hyper Racing and EVO Fuel Injection employee, Johnny Boland of Gainesville, Texas bested the fiercest competition and took home his first career KKM Challenge Series POWRi Racing win, worth $10,000 at the US-24 Speedway in Logansport, Indiana.
Things got underway on Thursday night with preliminary night number one of action for all three classes: Outlaw Wingless 600’s, Winged Restricted, and Winged Junior Sprints. Hyper Racing was well represented in all three classes all week long.
At the completion of Thursday night's event, Aiden Purdue, piloting Nick Yoder’s 25 machine, along with Pennsylvania’s Tommy Kunsman Jr locked their way into the Saturday night feature event.
Also making the feature event on Thursday were fellow Hyper Racing drivers, Frank Flud, Daniel Robinson, Darren Brown, Kenny Beinhower lll, Steven Snyder Jr (who set the night’s overall quick time), Chase Spicola, Autumn Criste, Greyson Springer, Kole Kirkman and Hayden Wise. A well represented field saw twelve of the twenty-two starters in Hyper Racing Chassis.
Gunnar Pio had a great run in the Junior Sprint portion of the event, where he came home runner up after leading multiple laps early on in the feature event.
Friday night was another chance for more drivers to lock-in to Saturday’s A Main, and Johnny Boland came to play. Boland set quick time overall on Friday, and drove to a dominant win in the preliminary feature worth $1,000. Fellow Hyper Racing driver Brian Carber finished third and locked himself into Saturday’s A Main with Boland, Purdue and Kunsman Jr.
Gunnar Pio, Indiana local Parker Perry driving Jim Radney’s 95, Mason Beinhower, Cole Dewewase, and Matt Carr also qualified for Friday’s feature making 7 of the twenty-two starters Hyper Chassis Drivers.
Friday night also saw F&M Performance and Hyper Racing driver Cash Lacombe score the big win in a thrilling restrictor feature, his first US-24, and KKM Challenge win in his young career.
Saturday night was all about the big money as twenty-four drivers would battle tooth and nail for a shot at $10,000 and the next victory in the POWRi/KKM Challenge series of events.
Johnny Boland won the “King of The Hill” event pocketing another $1,000, and earning the pole position of the feature event. A back and forth, heavy weight slugfest for the feature event lead saw Johnny Boland eventually pull away and dominate the closing stages of the feature event.
Try as they might, fellow Hyper Racing drivers Greyson Springer and Brian Carber gave Boland everything they had, with Carber at one point nosing in front of Boland for the race lead, but came just short of winning the event. Springer had to settle for third, Carber finished fourth, and Kole Kirkman rounded out the top five. Fellow Hyper Racing drivers Aiden Purdue (6th), Darren Brown (10th), Daniel Robinson (14th), Tommy Kunsman Jr (16th), Frank Flud (18th), and Parker Perry (20th) also made the feature event. In total, ten of the twenty-four starters were Hyper Chassis, including five of the top six. EVO Fuel Injection was able to secure three of the top five finishing positions, and Hard Charger honors for California driver Darren Brown who went 20th to 10th, wrapping up another great showing for Hyper Racing and EVO Fuel Injection!
