Micro & Mini Sprint Driving

Great micor/mini sprint race car drivers have the ability to be focused. Focus, a simple word, but one that to understand needs to be dissected and defined. To be focused, all distractions, diversions, ego, all thought must be removed. Your awareness, your consciousness, your focus must be completely descended upon the task at hand. Any feeling of emotion: anger, excitement, jealousy, contentment, worry, fear, all emotion must be erased. Easy to say, hard to do.

Angry because a competitor just chopped you? You are not focused. As a driver you must be able to immediately forgive and forget, you must focus on this exact moment, and not something that just happened, even one second ago. The mind must be clear to perceive all, to react instantaneously to any circumstance, to allow instinct to happen.

This is also the same awareness athletes have when performing at a high level; many of them call it being in the “zone”. This mind set, this focus, this awareness is not something you can just turn on when you are out on the track. For some it takes practice, for others it is natural.

In the Bible and other spiritual realms this is called awakening. There are piles of books written on the topic, one of the best being “The Power of Now” by Eckhart Tolle. I highly recommend reading it, it will teach you how to clear you mind and how to live in the here and now.

When you learn to clear your mind, to live in the moment without all the garbage your brain tries to create, you will be a better micro/mini sprint race car driver and a happier person.
